Someone Posted One of My Movies on Another Website

I got a Google alert about my name showing up on the internet, so I did a little investigation. I found someone had posted one of my movies on another website.

The website (https://mov.cat/title/the-barrier-2014) has a very brief description of my movie “The Barrier.” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATcKnFAwlU0) The entry also includes a trailer for the movie, but the “trailer” is the complete movie that I had posted on YouTube back in 2014. It isn’t just a link to the YouTube video; it is hosted on their site.

The post lists some people who I had worked with on other movies, but who were not involved with this movie.

It appears that it was just a link to another website where people can add links to movies they like. (https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1476091-the-barrier)

The site doesn’t have any of my other movies. I wonder how they got onto that one movie. It seems that whoever did it, knew more about me than they’d have gotten from just the one movie.

I am a little put out that they went and posted the entire movie. In some sense that could be considered digital piracy. It isn’t as if I am losing any money because of it though. It does help the movie reach a broader audience. Well, it at least reached one more person.

Someone suggested I contact the site about the posting. I am not sure what I would want them to do about it though. I would prefer they provide a link to the YouTube video rather than posting the whole movie. They really shouldn’t have all those other people listed, since they are not involved. I haven’t done a trailer for the movie. Maybe I should.
