AI Audiences and a Couple Writing Exercises

With all the talk of AI writers and artists, I started to wonder about the need for AI audiences. I overcame my lethargy and posted a couple of writing exercises.

AI Audiences

I had this thought some time ago when I started to hear about AI writing and art programs. If people think they can replace writers and artists, then would they be open to having AI audiences that were programed to enjoy AI produced art? Maybe there is an opportunity for AI customers of other AI products.

I think this could be the basis for a story. It would be a satire of course. So far, no specific story lines have come to mind.

I’ve talked about this idea to a few people and I’m not entirely sure what were my ideas, and which were other people’s ideas.

“The Unthreatening Dancer and the Resistant Flutist”

4 Minutes

A flutist and a dancer negotiate the music she will dance to.

I got lazy when it came to create an image to go with the exercise. I used Bing’s AI art program. It took several tries before I got something I thought was OK.

The Fate of the Experimental Musician”

3 Minutes

Detectives discuss the case of Experimental Musician Lewis van der Graaf.

While recording it, I felt that the story didn’t really make much sense. I wrote it as a detective story and focused on a conversation between a couple of detectives about the death of the musician.

I used Bing’s AI art program again. It took me longer to get an image I thought was OK.

Old Person Issues Script Progress

I’ve been working away on a new “old person issues” script. It has been a slow process.

I’ve been doing most of the work in the Shut Up and Write Group I joined. I’ve been working on it off and on for a month. It is about a meeting between a man whose wife has died and a paralegal to go over what he needs to do with the will. It draws on my personal experience, but I felt I had enough distance from it to be able to write it.

In my first session I got most of the first draft done. Then in the second session I got the first draft done and then started to rewrite it. I found it difficult. I felt it needed something more, but I couldn’t think of anything. So, I just cleaned up the dialogue a bit.

In my third session I expanded the dialogue. Afterwards I felt that most of it was a mistake. What added was more typical of what they would talk about, but it doesn’t add to what I really want to talk about. In that sense it takes away more than it adds.

In my fourth session, I cut out some of the dialogue from the previous session that felt wasn’t adding to the story. I think it came out better in the end. I want to have another go at it before I ask for feedback.

New Writing Exercise and Old Person Script

This week I posted a new writing exercise and made some progress on a new script about old person issues.

Writing Exercise

At the Script Dreams group, we did a writing exercise based on a title from a new version of my random title generator. This new version creates a title that describes two people: https://dynamiclethargyfilms.ca/random-title-generator/random-title-generator-featuring-two-people/.

The title we chose to work with was “The Rueful Agent and the Nicer Cryptographer.” It had a sort of spy story vibe to it. I got my story done with in the time limit. The next day, I recorded it and posted it on my website and my Sound Cloud account: https://soundcloud.com/dynamiclethargy/the-rueful-agent-and-the-nicer-cryptographer

Old Person Script

A few weeks ago, the Old Filmmakers Club I’m in had a challenge to write a short (3 to 5 minute) script that featured one or two characters and focussed on an issue that older people face. I did a short script that good some positive feed back. However, I felt uncomfortable with turning the script into a film because it was too personal. So I decided to try writing another story that I could feel more comfortable.

I worked on it at the Shut Up and Write Group I joined. At last week’s session I made some notes for the new story. At this week’s session I started to write the script. I got most of it done but didn’t get to the end of the story yet. I also haven’t put in some details I had planned to include. It looks like it will come in at the 4-to-5-minute length, but I felt that the story wants to be longer.

After the first session I had decided that I want to put more effort into this story than I originally planned. I expect to do more rewrites than normal. I very much want to story to work on more than just the surface level. I want to put more of it into the subtext. That will be a challenge.
